REAL NAME: Kasey Bersett

LOCATION: Chicago
CHILDHOOD HERO: Its a toss up. Either Pippi Longstocking or Anne of Green Gables.
OCCUPATION: For work and daytime play, I work in Marketing for live theater. By night, I’m a gardener, reader and just about anything else that would seem feasible for those childhood heroes of mine.
GARDENING EXPERIENCE: Somewhat experienced. After growing up in Belleville (just outside of St. Louis), I left the comforts of home and its well-established garden for the big city. A few years and several pounds after leaving, I’m returning to my green-thumbed roots for my second year as an urban gardener, which is quite different from a farm country gardener in Belleville where a tomato plant grows taller than me. Here in the cold windy city, we have to nudge them along.
WHAT I WANT TO DO: Grow food to last me absolutely as long as possible. For my second year, I want to be able to preserve through canning and drying for the winter and for gifts. Therefore, you will see my trying to pull off some crazy containers and square foot techniques to push the limits of what my backyard can produce.
